Laura Harring is a multi national actor who was noticed in Hollywood after her starring role in the David Lynch film Mulholland Drive. A movie which was recently voted The Best Film of the 21st Century. For her role and performance Harring was compared to screen legends Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner. An honor she dismissed saying “no one can compare to those Hollywood Legends”.

Laura Harring has received numerous honors for her work, including a Nosotros Golden Eagle Award as Best Actress and an ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Award as Outstanding Actress for her role in Lynch’s masterpiece, Mulholland Drive. In addition, Laura Harring was the recipient of another Alma when she received the “Best Cast” award for her role in A Family in Crisis: The Elian Gonzales Story. In addition to a Gasparilla Film Festival Award for her role in the dark indie Drool and an Outfest Award for the same movie.

In the made-for-television movie based on real-life events, Laura Harring portrayed Marisleysis Gonzalez, the cousin of 5-year-old Elian Gonzalez. The little Cuban boy became the center of national headlines in 1999 when his rescue off the coast of Florida set an international and emotionally charged custody battle in motion.

Elian’s mother had died in her attempt to reach the United States. Marisleysis served as a mother figure to Elian, while he lived with her family in Miami. Elian’s father demanded the child’s return to Cuba. After a public battle between Elian’s father and the boy’s Miami relatives, US federal authorities forcibly removed the child from Miami and returned him to his father in Cuba. Marisleysis became extremely attached to Elian and suffered emotional trauma when authorities busted into their home in the middle of the night to remove Elian from the premises.

Laura Harring portrayed Marisleysis with passion and depth of pain rarely seen on television movies.
